Month Long Medication Error Causes Resident's Stroke

CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI - A lawsuit was filed by Jeffrey Pitman of Pitman, Kyle & Sicula, S.C. on behalf of a Chippewa Falls man who suffered a stroke after nurses failed to administer his prescribed Coumodin medication for a month.

The resident, a 71-year-old male, was a resident at Lakeside Health, LLC in Chippewa Falls when the staff at Lakeside Health failed to give him his prescribed Coumadin medication for 29 straight days. After further investigation, it was learned that once the medical staff learned of the error they failed to document their acknowledgement of it. The medication error caused the Plaintiff to suffer a stroke.

The lawsuit, filed in the Chippewa Falls County Circuit Court, alleges that Lakeside Health failed to give the Plaintiff his prescribed anticoagulant, failed to document this repeated and significant medical error, and failed to document the physician's orders. It also alleged that Lakeside had a significant history of medication administration errors.
