Nursing Home Patient Hit by Semi

An 81-year-old North Freedom woman struck by a semi Thursday afternoon on Highway 12 near Sumpter has died.

The woman was a resident of the nearby Bluffview Meadows nursing home when she walked onto Highway 12 and into the side of a southbound semi according to a press release from the Sauk County Sheriff's Department.  Local officials were still investigating whether she'd been missing before the accident, among other details.

The woman was pronounced dead Thursday at University of Wisconsin Hospital. She died from severe head, arm and leg injuries.

Pam Miller, administrator of Bluffview Meadows, was unavailable for comment.
